They span from mountain treelines to the boundaries of vast biomes and ecoregions (eg, Mediterranean and arid).Ecotones exist at a variety of spatial dimensions, ranging from natural ecotones across ecosystems and biomes to man-made borders.Ecotones are locations where ecological communities, ecosystems, or ecological regions abruptly transition along a gradient of environmental change. On China’s Loess Plateau in Linxia County, Gansu, this was exactly the case for some time. This zone can traverse lengthy portions of two ecosystems and is a site where both ecosystems’ traits can be seen. Restoring ecosystems, transforming lives In areas of the world where local people rely on subsistence agriculture, ecosystem degradation can threaten the lives and resilience of the community. This is a fundamental feature of landscapes that landscape ecologists frequently investigate. An ecotone is a zone when an ecosystem (or community) abruptly transitions from one to another.Ecotone(Environment Topic For UPSC Exam): Download PDF Here! What are Ecotones? Nowadays, the ecotone is regarded as one of the most important subjects in UPSC Exams, as it is regarded as the most sensitive section of the affected ecosystems to the surrounding environment. A vegetative transition zone between two plant communities, such as forest and grassland, is known as an ecotone. But as humans impact these spaces, concern grows. Spider richness was enhanced with increased vegetation complexity, which was greatest in the ecotone. ecotone area, ecotone area/perimeter), instead showing a quadratic correlation along the gradient, with increased diversity of both plants and spiders in the ecotone. Taxonomic richness patterns did not reflect changes in habitat spatial characteristics (e.g. It supports a unique plant assemblage and greater total soil nitrogen than the adjacent upland. The high saltmarsh was identified as an ecotone, with biological and physical conditions distinct from the adjacent marsh plain and upland. To determine whether the salt marsh/upland transition zone is an ecotone, both in functioning as a habitat, as well as concentrating materials and organisms, I conducted an extensive survey of 12 marsh/upland transition zones in the Pt Reyes area of California. Similar to Planner, lists in SharePoint was introduced a lot earlier than people realise. Even posing a challenge for those of us who had moved on to Microsoft Teams, because we wanted to get back together with our ex. The difference is that Yammer finally came around and virtually re-invented itself, making up for lost time. Sure, the average user still thought the product was good, but those who scratched beyond the surface quickly realised the shortcomings. Development and creation of new features was minimal. The product integration was heralded as the next big thing, people like me jumped on the bandwagon full of hope for the future… which never came.īecause the product stagnated. But then, it started to become clear that this was becoming similar to when Microsoft made Yammer part of the Office 365 suite. But it was designed to be enough, that the average Microsoft 365 user (Office 365 back then) wouldn’t need to look for an external solution.įor a time, things were great. It was never intended to compete with Trello and its clones, never offer the same level of functionality. Microsoft unveiled Planner as an ad-hoc group-based task management tool for the new age. Agile was starting to emerge as a hero, and products such as Trello and Asana were starting to take the spotlight. The world was turning away from the “waterfall” view of managing projects. Microsoft Project was too expensive and difficult to use properly without training, Project Online was providing a cloud alternative but still provided the same challenges and lists in SharePoint had stagnated. We needed a new task management system back then. I’ve been working with Microsoft Planner for many years, since it was originally revealed to the MVP community as “Project Highlander” around 2016. Check out this post for a complete list of Project of Project for the Web limitations.(UPDATED 4th Feb 2022 with additions to the comparison table, removal of the Power Apps line in the table, link to Gantt chart JSON sample for list view formatting, link to a follow-up post showing how to migrate from Planner to Lists) So if you have a sophisticated and extensive schedule in MS Project, it will not be imported to Project for the Web. Currently, Project for the Web only supports a maximum number of 500 tasks. For a complete list of the columns that are not supported/imported, check out this Microsoft article. Some examples include: Assigned Resources, custom fields, and certain types of dependencies. Since Project for the Web is a lightweight version of the desktop application, some fields and information that exist in the desktop version of the application will not be imported to Project for the Web.mpp file after the initial import, you would need to import to a brand new schedule mpp file into a new Project for the Web Schedule, not an existing one. mpp project schedule import to Project for the Web Your schedule will now appear in Project for the Web! Luckily, Microsoft made the transition of switching to the cloud version of the application easy, by allowing us to import a desktop version. In that case, the chances are, you probably already used a desktop version of the Microsoft Project and happen to have some schedules created in that application. Suppose you are considering switching to Project for the Web. I introduced you to this wonderful application in an earlier article of mine.Īn example of the Project for the Web application How to import a Microsoft Project schedule into Project for the Web Unlike Planner, which is an informal, Kanban-style task management tool, Project for the Web allows you to set dependencies on the tasks, populate tasks with effort, and create custom fields. If you are new to Project for the Web, it is a task management application available within Microsoft 365 ecosystem. I would like to explain how to do just that in today’s post. There are several different ways to create a new Project Schedule in the Project for the Web applicaiton and one of the options is to import an existing Microsoft Project file. I watched the special, and sure enough, it was true.Īs I said before, The Lorax is on the same DVD, so I rewatched that, too. I mean, rewatching it now I was thinking "I like this because it's more musical than most of the specials," but with Joe Raposo music, that just makes sense.Īlso, the only thing I remember about my dream, and why I sought out the special right away on Youtube was that Pontoffel was a cutie. He must really mean that Pontoffel managed to net a hot girlfriend, even though he's a self-proclaimed schnook. at the end, the master dill pickler tells Pontoffel, "For proving your worth, you deserve one more try." But how did he do that? Every place he went, he was less than spectacular, and why would a dill pickler believe in a flying piano anyway. In other words, the job wasn't really about a job, but about life. That job was his last chance to connect with somebody, perhaps, and to at least move to a better house. After he loses his job, it's revealed that his family is all gone (dead or otherwise, it's not specified) and all he has is a run down house. But I saw that more as wanting to join society than wanting to be a cog in a corporate scheme. I guess it's because Pontoffel really wanted the job at the pickling factory. From what I remember, the poster commented on how the two specials had opposite messages, what with The Lorax being anti-commerce and Pontoffel being pro. Happy ending!Īnyway, the comment was about how, since the special was coupled with The Lorax on the DVD, it had an ironic message or something. Still, the fairies take them back home and they both get jobs at the pickling factory. But in the end he finds his way back, although the piano does not survive. But in his attempts to take his love and escape, he drops her and ends up lost, hence the "where are you" of the title. His first trip is not good, but he gets a second chance and goes to an arabian land where he falls in love. He wishes to get away from it all, and three fairies show up and grant his wish with a piano that can fly. The special details Pontoffel Pock's journey after he loses his job after a disastrous first day at the dill pickling factory. But I do want to rebut a comment I read shortly after I watched the special on Youtube (I was too lazy to find the tape). Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You - the NovelizationĪctually, I don't want to do that anymore. It's taken this long for the DVD to work its way up to the top of my queue, but here it is now. I no longer remember what exactly happened, but because of that dream, I rewatched the special on YouTube, and had the desire to write up something like this, even before I had a blog. Two, a while ago, maybe even a year by this point, I had a dream, a dream about the main character of one of the specials not specifically based on a book, Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You?, sometimes known as Pontoffel Pock and his Magic Piano. Seuss specials and my sisters and I watched them all on a regular basis. One, when I was young, my dad taped all the Dr. There are a couple of reasons I'm writing this post. These actions can occur because of charged (or neutralized) particles interacting with one another. It's even responsible for the drag that birds, planes and even Superman experience while flying. The electromagnetic force is responsible for some of the most commonly experienced phenomena: friction, elasticity, the normal force and the force holding solids together in a given shape. They are virtual and undetectable, even though they are technically the same particles as the real and detectable version, according to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The force-carrying photons that swap between charged particles, however, are a different manifestation of photons. Related: What Is Electromagnetic Radiation?Įlectromagnetic forces are transferred between charged particles through the exchange of massless, force-carrying bosons called photons, which are also the particle components of light. So when electrons zoom through a wire to charge your computer or phone or turn on your TV, for example, the wire becomes magnetic. The particles create a magnetic field around them as they move. But once set into motion, those charged particles begin to display the second component, the magnetic force. The electric component acts between charged particles whether they're moving or stationary, creating a field by which the charges can influence each other. At first, physicists described these forces of nature as separate from one another, but researchers later realized that the two are components of the same force. And much like gravity, this force can be felt from an infinite distance (albeit the force would be very, very small at that distance).Īs its name indicates, the electromagnetic force consists of two parts: the electric force and the magnetic force. The greater the charge, the greater the force. Opposite charges attract one another, while like charges repel. The electromagnetic force, also called the Lorentz force, acts between charged particles, like negatively charged electrons and positively charged protons. (Image credit: Shutterstock) Fundamental forces of nature: Electromagnetic force The weak force is critical for the nuclear fusion reactions that power the sun and produce the energy needed for most life forms here on Earth. This decay happens at a predictable rate, allowing scientists to determine how old such artifacts are. Carbon-14 has six protons and eight neutrons one of those neutrons decays into a proton to make nitrogen-14, which has seven protons and seven neutrons. It's also why archaeologists can use carbon-14 to date ancient bone, wood and other formerly living artifacts. As a result, the subatomic particles decay into new particles, according to Georgia State University's HyperPhysics website. When subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons and electrons come within 10^-18 meters, or 0.1% of the diameter of a proton, of one another, they can exchange these bosons. In the weak force, the bosons are charged particles called W and Z bosons. Specific kinds of bosons are responsible for three of the fundamental forces of nature - the weak force, electromagnetic force and strong force. Physicists describe this interaction through the exchange of force-carrying particles called bosons. So, for example, a neutrino that strays close to a neutron can turn the neutron into a proton while the neutrino becomes an electron. This is the literal change of one type of subatomic particle into another. The weak force, also called the weak nuclear interaction, is responsible for particle decay. Fundamental forces of nature: The weak force And at the molecular and atomic levels, gravity has almost no effect relative to the other fundamental forces. Think of it this way: How hard is it to lift a ball off the ground? Or to lift your foot? Or to jump? All of those actions are counteracting the gravity of the entire Earth. Though gravity holds planets, stars, solar systems and even galaxies together, it turns out to be the weakest of the fundamental forces of nature, especially at the molecular and atomic scales.
I added a square hole with a radius in each corner and was able to select all faces individually from the back of the part without any problems, so this problem appears to be restricted to round holes. I later noticed that I could select the holes from the front, but even then I had to click on just the right place on the curved surface. Regardless of where I click around the hole the bottom surface of the part is always selected, as though the bottom surface was also covering the holes. I had to flip the part to machine the holes from the back which is no problem for Sprut 7. The part was drawn in Alibre and exported directly into Sprut. Unfortunately I couldn't select insides of the holes! I could select all other faces, but not the curved surfaces of the holes. For a short program or something that will be run many many times it might be acceptable to run it slowly while monitoring the process, but on one-off jobs that might take multiple hours to process it’s simply not an option to run blindly the generated code without going through a sim stage.I cant wait for 9, 8 was good but lots of little bugs.I downloaded the trial V9 Build 1.9 a couple of days ago and I decided to start with a simple part that I need to make, basically three interpolated round holes in a profile. It will run, but at no point is the robot motion simulated beforehand to make sure it is safe to run, as Robotmaster or SprutCAM Robot do. We evaluated the Fusion360 for example and it is only a naive post-processor with proper URScript syntax output. To my knowledge there is no desktop client app to control a UR bot and execute/follow a gcode trajectory over the realtime ethernet connection, we prototyped something once where we executed the gcode on the laptop and streamed the TCP to the robot so that it was essentially mirroring the virtual machining op, but I dont know of existing out-of-the-box solution, something similar to If i’m not wrong, all these solutions do not simulate the robot kinematics before generating machine code, so there is always a risk when executing these blindly to crash or enter into a singularity/exceeding kinematics limits. You could also stream the toolpath from a computer over ethernet, that would allow for infinitely long programs. You might be able to write a script that could load dynamically a csv file or similar with a list of waypoints and loop through them to create a path on the fly but then you would still need to validate the toolpath beforehand as you could quickly crash/reach some limits, or be constrained to a working range you are sure is reachable. I dont know how the e-series behave with very long programs, I guess 4.5MB brings you close to a hundred thousand lines? Also you wont be able to run straight g-code since you must convert that to urscript code first, and likely want to go through a simulation stage to make you sure you dont hit any singularity or exceed any kinematic limits, you cant simply replace the gcode commands with urscript syntax expecting it will just work. On CB controllers our experience is that a program more than a few thousand lines will take really long to start playing and very often crashes the controller. Thanks for that link Jeffrey, pretty nice job. I've been using Photomatix for 10+ years, and I'm looking forward to any features in version 6 that make it even better for producing realisitic images. However I agree, HDRSoft may have left it too late to come to market with a new version that is going to blow it's competitors, and there are many of them, out of the water. When I do use PhotoMatixMatix it's normally the Contrast Optimiser. I don't use Adobe products any more but I can tease the Dynamic Range out of my camera's RAW files without using HDR. Can you tell I am disappointed in Photomatix? I am. If they don't show anything brilliant in this long over-due release then that will be the end of them. Even Lightroom's Highlight and Shadow recover sliders can take a normally exposed RAW file and produce dynamic range as if you took bracketed exposures of 0+2-2. They also said "Photomatix Pro 6 is still in development, but there should be a private beta of it soon, followed by a public beta later". Not too much, just a tiny little snippet about "a new color adjusting tool which allows you to change the saturation, hue, and brightness of individual colors and Tone Balancer, the new tone mapping method in Photomatix Pro 6 that works rather well for photos in a realistic style". Do they say what new features might be included in this release? I haven't upgraded since 4 point something, a few years ago. Say It With A Camera: I haven't been following Photomatix for some years. They also mentioned about a Private Beta, followed by a Public Beta. There have been a couple of posts on the PhotoMatix FB page about two of the new features of PhotoMatix 6. |
